Islamic State Massacres Dozens of Men, Abducts Women and Children in Iraq Village

The Islamic State has reportedly made good on a promise that they would kill Yazidis who did not convert to Islam. The village of Kocho was invaded by the Islamic State late last week, where Yazidi men were murdered and women and children were kidnapped.

Last month, the Islamic State forced people in Mosul to either convert to Islam, pay a tax, leave or be killed.

“When the residents refused to do this (in Kocho), the massacre took place,” Yazidi politician Mahma Khalil said.

About 80 Yazidi men were shot to death. It is unclear how many women and children were abducted. The woman are usually sold by the extremists or married off. Some villagers managed to escape and flee to the mountains.

"They thought we were dead, and when they went away, we ran away," a wounded survivor reported. "We hid in a valley until sundown, and then we fled to the mountains."

Said Iraq Human Rights Ministry spokesman Kamil Amin: “We think that the terrorists by now consider them slaves and they have vicious plans for them. We think that these women are going to be used in demeaning ways by those terrorists to satisfy their animalistic urges in a way that contradicts all the human and Islamic values."
