Is the Solar Eclipse a Sign of the End Times?

A total solar eclipse will take place in the U.S. on August 21, 2017. People around the country are planning eclipse-viewing parties and eagerly awaiting this event which last happened 38 years ago.

Some are even speculating that the eclipse is a sign of the end times. Some Christians are pointing to verses such as Matthew 24:29 or Revelation 6:12 which discuss events that will occur before Christ’s Second Coming.

"Immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken” (Matt. 24:29).

“I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood” (Rev. 6:12).

Christian Today reports that Pastor Mark Blitz is one who believes the eclipse is “meant to be a sign from God” as an event that Jesus told His followers to look out for.

“When there is a total solar eclipse, it is a warning to a specific nation or nations depending on its path,” said Blitz.

“Now this August 21, 2017, we have a total solar eclipse going over the United States. This is again at the beginning of the month of repentance on the first of Elul! Could God be giving us warning that we need to repent or judgment will be coming on the United States? The timing couldn't be clearer,” Blitz elaborated.
