A group of good Samaritans and police officers rushed to help a motorcyclist in South Carolina who became trapped underneath a car during an accident over the weekend.

On Saturday, the motorcycle was hit by a car from behind in Myrtle, South Carolina. Two people were riding on the motorcycle before they were knocked off the bike in the collision. One of the motorcyclists was then pinned underneath the car.

According to reports, police and bystanders immediately jumped into action to help lift the car off the trapped man, Alex James. MSN reports that about two dozen people all worked together to free James.

“THANK YOU to the officers and on-lookers who swiftly responded to a motorcyclist trapped under a vehicle from a collision on Ocean Boulevard on Saturday afternoon,” The Myrtle Beach Police Department said in a statement posted on their Facebook page. “As seen in the video, officers and on-lookers lifted the car to release the person and get him to safety.

“We are lucky to live and work in a community where everyone is ready to work together to help others,” the statement said.

The two people riding on the motorcycle were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries. According to CBN News, the car’s driver allegedly had an open container of alcohol in his car and was arrested on the scene. The driver was also charged for following too closely to another motorist.

The police department said the car was about 2,000 pounds.

“As the summer season is picking up, please remember to slow down and look twice to keep everyone safe,” the police said in their statement. “Remember, leave extra space between you and other vehicles and please drive safely.”
