Former Olympic Gymnast Pregnant with Triplets Refuses Doctors' Advice to Abort

A former British Olympic gymnast has refused to abort two of her three triplets, despite advice of doctors. Christian News Network reports that Jaime Halsey, formerly Jaime Moore, said she would not abort, even though she was risking her own health to continue the pregnancy.

“I...risk putting my body under three times the strain to keep them healthy so they advised the termination,” Halsey said.

The babies are at risk of Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) and one of the babies was 25 percent smaller than the others at 12 weeks.

Still, the former gymnast said she could not sacrifice two babies to save one.

“My initial emotional reaction was ‘I can’t do that. I will keep them all and carry on with the pregnancy whatever.’ Other people have triplets and I wasn’t prepared to abort two healthy babies just to make life easier,” she said.

Halsey is now 26 weeks into her pregnancy and all three of the babies are growing.

Halsey’s husband, Steve Halsey said, “Everything went well at the last scan and all three babies are growing well. The one twin remains smaller, but all three are extremely active, which is good news.”

He continued, “We never thought about terminating two of the babies for a second. We want to bring all three of them into our happy family.”
