Family-friendly streaming service VidAngel, which had to stop its services due to a legal battle, is back at least for the time being.
According to Christianity Today, the Mormon-founded company allows families to filter out any unwanted content so that any popular shows or movies can be made suitable for the entire family.
Previously, VidAngel allowed users to rent movies for $1.00 a piece, but now, after waging a court battle, the company has shifted tactics and is instead offering a service which allows families to watch customized versions of shows and films found on popular streaming services such as HBO, Netflix, and Amazon. The service will cost $7.99 a month.
“VidAngel is back!” announced CEO Neal Harmon in a live video watched by more than 200,000 fans.
The company had initially run into legal trouble involving copyright and encryption regulations. VidAngel executives, as well as their 100,000-plus subscribers, hope that the new model will successfully bypass any further legal ramifications.
As Christianity Today notes, there is clearly a large faith-based audience that appreciates the service VidAngel provides. The company is even backed by conservative Christian groups such as Focus on the Family.
Time will tell whether VidAngel is able to sidestep more legal troubles, but for now fans are glad to have the service back.
“Rewatching #StrangerThings via @VidAngel with the boys. They are loving it & it’s great we can edit out the profanity & sexual references,” a dad in Texas tweeted last week.
