Egypt: 16-Year-Old Christian Boy Murdered as Violence against Christians Continues

Egypt’s Christians continue to be the target of attacks from Muslim extremists. In the latest act of violence, a 16-year-old Christian boy was found murdered.

Christian Today reports that Gamal Gabriel was found by his family with his throat slit, lying in a pool of blood, in Qai village in Upper Egypt.

Gabriel was murdered on Maundy Thursday, just four days after two bombings were carried out against Coptic Christians who were attending Palm Sunday church services. The same day Gabriel was murdered three Christian homes were also burned.

Gabriel’s family believes ISIS is behind their son’s murder. “The way he was killed is the way of Daesh [IS], as they are the only ones who slaughter people like that,” said Gabriel’s father, Allam Bashay Gabriel. “They slaughtered my son because of his faith in Jesus Christ. It's a war on Christians, and all honest people should stand up to those who are waging this war.”

Gabriel was reportedly on his way to another village to meet with a tutor when he was targeted. After he didn’t respond to phone calls and didn’t come home, his family went looking for him and found him murdered.

Gabriel’s funeral was held on Good Friday. Those who knew him say he was well-loved. “He was a very peaceful and polite person,” said his father.
