Christian Pastor Seeks to Help Muslim Woman Attacked with Acid by Fiancé

A Christian pastor in Nigeria has started a campaign to help a Muslim woman who was burned by acid when her fiancé reportedly attacked her.

According to ChristianToday.com, Pastor Joshua Iginla is appealing to his church and other Christians to help raise money so that 26-year-old local Muslim woman Jamila Yusuf can go to India and undergo surgery for her burns.

Yusuf was reportedly attacked by her fiancé who threw acid on her. Sixty percent of her face was burned as well as 10 percent of the rest of her body. The surgery she needs would cost about $32,000.

Pastor Iginla is determined to raise the funds.

"I think Nigerians should rise up to defend the rights of women; to lay your hands on a woman is injustice. I just don't know how a man can do this (pour acid) on a lady; some people are just animals; how can you disfigure a lady like this," he said, noting that even though Yusuf is a Muslim, helping her is a way for Christians to show the love of Christ.

"I am not doing this for her because she is a member of my church; I don't know her from anywhere; she's even a Muslim and not a Christian. We are only doing this to preach love and not to convert her to Christianity after her surgery in India," he said.

"This is an opportunity to show love to your neighbour because she's not a Christian; your neighbour must not necessarily come from your religion or ethnic group," he added.
