Christian Film ‘The Star’ Will Tell Story of Jesus’ Birth from Animals’ Perspective

A new Christian film called The Star is set to be released this November. The film will tell the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of the animals that witnessed it from the stable.

Nancy Flory at Stream.org explains that the film will tell the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of a donkey named Bo, who leaves his life of working to find his purpose and destiny. As he travels, Bo meets other animals like Ruth the sheep and Dave the dove. These animals all end up following the star to the stable in Bethlehem and witnessing Jesus' birth.

The film’s director, Timothy Reckart, commented on the film’s unique perspective: “That’s a story that nobody has told before. We’re calling it the greatest story never told.”

Reckart also commented on the need to create an engaging film while remaining true to the biblical account: “We wanted it to be as good as the field is. The difficulty in dealing with a scriptural thing is finding a way to get a solid three-act structure, an emotional through line and comedy and adventure that may not necessarily be there in the biblical story without tampering with the biblical story.”

The film’s executive director, DeVon Franklin, added that Bo’s story mirrors our own stories and pursuit of purpose: “We all have a destiny, a calling or a purpose … [often] we don’t realize how it is all working towards it. That’s what’s kind of great about Bo’s journey.”

The film will be released on November 10, 2017.
