Israeli rocket fire struck a UN school shelter, killing 15 people and injuring 90, including many children. The school was designated as a shelter for displaced Palestinian families.
The school, located in Jebaliya, was crowded with civilians seeking refuge from the blasts. The UN is providing shelter for over 200,000 people in schools across the region.
Survivors were traumatized by the incident. “We were scared to death,” said refugee Assad Sabah. “After 4:30 a.m., tanks started firing more. Three explosions shook the school. One classroom collapsed over the head of the people who were inside.”
Aishe Abu Darabeh, another survivor said, “Where will we go? Where will we go next? We fled and they (the Israelis) are following us.”
Israeli declared a four-hour humanitarian ceasefire after the attack beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time in order for Palestinians to take care of the injured. Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri argued that the ceasefire was not worth any “value” because border areas were still blocked.
