Boko Haram Kidnaps at Least 20 Women, 3 Men

Boko Haram militants have conducted another kidnapping in Borno state; this time, at least 20 women and three men were taken from the nomadic village of Garkin Fulani. The abduction occurred on June 5, near the town of Chibok, where about 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped on April 14.

All Africa reports that militants infiltrated the settlement at midday, while most of the men were tending to cattle in the fields.

“We were told that gunmen went to Garkin Fulani near Chibok town and forcefully took away the women. They invaded the settlement at the time most of the male members of the place were all out either on grazing activity or some went to the market. Due to poor communication the news did not go out immediately, even the Fulani men only got to know about it when they returned home late in the evening; but villagers around the place said they saw the gunmen driving in about three Hilux jeeps,” said Alhaji Tar, Vigilante chairman.

Muhammed Gavva, Vigiliante spokesman, confirmed that the whereabouts of the men and women are unknown.

“Honestly, up till today (Monday), we have not heard anything concerning the missing women that were abducted near Chibok town on Thursday. If our men had got wind of it earlier, we could have tried to go after them,” Gavva said.
