According to The Christian Post, the Bobby Jones Gospel show ran for 35 years on BET. The last episode aired on July 31.
Many notable gospel artists were featured in tribute performances. Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Vickie Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Yolanda Adams, and the Chicago Mass Choir all performed.
A number of artists took to Twitter to express their thankfulness to Bobby Jones for his program.
Gospel music artist James Fortune tweeted:
Another gospel artist, Kurt Carr, also praised Bobby Jones for allowing him and so many other artists to have a platform for their music.
Jones previously told The Christian Post that his faith has been integral to the show’s survival over so many years.
"My faith has kept me there because I understand that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. I quote those passages and do that with an understanding, so I know that faith is essential for anything to develop," Jones said. "In the Christian world you must have faith, so I understand that. That's how it undergirds my ability to go forth in that manner."
