Asia Bibi, the Christian Pakistani woman accused of speaking against the Islamic prophet Muhammed, had her hearing for appeal delayed for the second time. Mission Network News reports that the complainant, Muslim mullah Qari Muhammed Sallam, did not appear in court for Bibi’s March 26 hearing; judges waited 10 minutes and dismissed the case for the day.
The initial appeal hearing was scheduled for last week was delayed on account of two judges’ inability to appear in court.
The wife and mother of five is sentenced to death for the blasphemy charge brought upon her on June 19, 2009. According to Sallam, Bibi committed the blasphemy against Muhammed on June 14, 2009, but Bibi’s lawyers will use the time difference between the dates as evidence that the charge filed against her is false.
Bibi was sentenced to the death penalty on November 8, 2010 and appealed the sentence three days later. Shes awaits the hearing and court’s decision in prision.
A new date for the hearing has not yet been scheduled.
