Canon Andrew White, vicar of Iraq’s only Anglican church, has expressed his concern that the world’s focus on the Israel-Gaza conflict has left ISIS to get away with horrific acts of persecution. In a newsletter for the Catholic News Service, the “Vicar of Baghdad” said that it seems the international community has put its undivided attention on the Middle East conflict, and has forgotten the thousands of persecuted Christians in Iraq.
"The Islamic State simply said we can do anything now the world is just looking at Gaza," White wrote. "In reality that is true. Iraq seems like old news, yet things just get worse and worse here.
"It is as if hell has broken out here and nobody cares, that is, apart from you, our supporters, who never leave us and keep supporting us in every way.”
White also released a new blog post, detailing the murder of a family of eight who refused to convert to Islam.
The Vicar of Baghdad asked for prayer from supporters worldwide during the time of crisis. “Pray for our perseverance that we and our people will not give up the spiritual fight before us,” White wrote.
