2 Killed, 7 Arrested in Raid Targeting Paris Attack 'Mastermind'

French police raided an apartment early Wednesday (Nov. 18) targeting the so-called “mastermind” behind the coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris.

ABC News reports the raid did not capture mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud, but seven suspects were arrested. One terror suspect was killed by a grenade in the raid and a female terrorist killed herself by detonating an explosive vest.

Five officers were injured in the raid and a police dog was killed.

Police surrounded the apartment at 4:30 a.m. local time, under the cover of darkness. The raid occurred less than one mile from the Stade de France, one of the sites that was targeted in the attacks.

Citizens in the area were told to remain in their homes with the windows locked.

The raid lasted three hours, with constant gunfire and intermittent bomb blasts.

According to French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the raid was one of 414 that have been carried out since the attacks on Nov. 13. Of those, 118 took place overnight.

Currently, 60 individuals have been taken into police custody. Police have confiscated 75 weapons, and 118 people have been put on house arrest.
