Tornadoes Rip Through Midwest, Humanitarian Organizations Provide Aid

Tornado producing storms have swept through the Midwest in the past few days leaving tens of thousands without power and leaving dozens dead. At least 28 people across portions of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Mississippi have been killed

As a major storm system continues to move eastward, Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization is responding to the devastation left behind after a massive tornado struck Mayflower, Arkansas Sunday evening.

The twister left a path of destruction 30 miles long and a half-mile wide. Matthew 25’s team will continue to evaluate damage throughout surrounding areas as well.

Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team have also been deployed to Mayflower.

“We mourn with the thousands of families who lost loved ones or homes in such a violent way through the tornadoes that took place this past weekend,” said Jack Munday, international director of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team. “For many, life will never be the same as it was just 24 hours ago. Our chaplains will come alongside the survivors, helping with their emotional and spiritual needs as they seek to find a new version of normal.”

Mercy Chefs, a non-profit, faith based organization committed to serving high quality professionally prepared meals, has deployed a team to Violina, Arkansas to feed people who have been devastated from the deadly tornado.

International humanitarian relief organization, Convoy of Hope, also has assessment teams en route to affected areas throughout the Midwest.

“Our prayers are with the families whose lives have been impacted by these storms,” says Hal Donaldson, president and co-founder of Convoy of Hope. “Our teams will provide crucial information that will help us as we make plans in the coming days and monitor additional severe weather forecasted in these areas throughout the week.”
