Billy Graham to Have Outpatient Sinus Surgery at Mayo Clinic

The Rev. Billy Graham will undergo an elective outpatient procedure to relieve symptoms of sinusitis and bronchitis today (Friday, April 5) at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Since last November, Graham has suffered from recurring bouts of sinus and bronchial infections, a condition referred to as sino-bronchial syndrome.

During his regular biennial checkup yesterday at Mayo Clinic, Graham's doctors discussed the procedure with the 83-year-old evangelist. They also placed a tiny tube in his right eardrum to relieve pressure caused by fluid buildup in his middle ear, a consequence of chronic sinusitis that can temporarily impede hearing.

The approximately two-hour procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Doctors anticipate releasing Graham the day after the procedure to convalesce at home in preparation for future ministry commitments.
