Politics is not supposed to get much of our attention during the summer months when it’s beach reading, TV re-runs and, for teenagers, short-term infatuations. But the Iowa straw poll and President Obama’s falling approval numbers are making some of us pay attention.
We are already seeing the pattern of the Democrats’ attempt to hold on to their slipping power. It is based on fear -- fear the Republicans will cut everything and starve Grandma; fear of big corporations and the successful who won’t pay their “fair share,” though they are paying more than their fair share to people who don’t; fear of people who believe God, not government, is supreme.
That last one is eveident in the comments by secular liberals in the media and behind the political curtain. They will try to link Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann to the Taliban, or snake handlers, whichever is more effective. Watch for the greatest attempt at anti-Christian bigotry perhaps in our history. You heard it here first.
