Is the War on Terror Really Over?

President Obama reportedly is taking a "new view" of Islamic radicalism; a kind of "if you can't beat them, join them" attitude.

A senior State Department aide is quoted in the National Journal as saying "the War on Terror is over." Really? I hadn't noticed the signing of a peace treaty or that the terrorists are laying down their arms and forswearing destruction of the West. If the War on Terror is over, does that mean we don't have to go through airport screenings anymore?

National Journal writer Michael Hirsh claims that Islamism may be the Arab way of fomenting democracy. Right, and oppression of women is the path to women's rights and war is peace. George Orwell, call your office.

This is self-delusion at best and suicide at worst. Every indication is just the opposite of what the wishful thinkers are thinking and wishing. The reality is the Islamists are unifying the Arab world under radical Islam and when they do, they are coming after us. If this president won't deal with it, maybe we'd better pick one who will.

I'm Cal Thomas.
