Terror Reminds us this is not Our Home

Do you get the feeling the world is falling apart? State-sponsored terrorism seems to have set the world on fire. Weapons of mass destruction threaten us. A gunman mows down people at random in the Washington area. War against Iraq may be imminent. More terror may be on the way in this country.

I was speaking about this last week with a fellow newspaper columnist. I told him that wars and rumors of wars are prophesied in scripture.

None of this should be surprising to believers. Daniel and Ezekiel wrote about it. Jesus spoke often about the end times, as did Paul and John in his revelation.

I have no idea whether these are the last days before Christ returns, but I do know the signs we shall see just before he does return are everywhere and if this is not the time, then it is a preview of coming attractions.

So why are we distracting ourselves with so many trivialities? We should focus on what really matters in life while we are living it, because this is not our home and eternity is a long, long time.

I’m Cal Thomas in Washington.
