Saddam's Defiance, America's Resolve

Dan Rather has interviewed Saddam Hussein. Too bad he couldn’t make a citizen’s arrest! The interview will be broadcast tomorrow night, but some of what he said has already been released.

As usual, Saddam was defiant, saying he would not destroy his Al-Samoud 2 missiles, which United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix has ordered him to do.

Incredibly, he challenged president bush to a war debate by satellite. White house spokesman Ari Fleischer properly labeled the challenge ridiculous.

War is coming and soon. The question is not what the outcome will be. The question is whether this mass murderer can be stopped before he murders even more of his own people and violates the rules of war by unleashing chemical and biological weapons on British and American forces.

And then there’s the question of whether cells in this country will start killing Americans here.

The one thing that is not in doubt is that we are already at war and we had better take out our adversaries before they take more of us out. Any questions?
