Remembering Our Many Blessings on Thanksgiving

While Canada has its own Thanksgiving, ours has a uniquely American flavor. Presidents since Abe Lincoln and governors since William Bradford have issued proclamations in which they direct grateful Americans to offer thanks to God for what America is.

Yes, we have our challenges, but our many blessings far exceed them. Even if you are poor, you are not as poor as most of the world. Are you sick? There's better treatment here than almost any place else in the world. Are you unemployed? You can get help until you find another job.

Whatever our challenges and disappointments, we give thanks to God for His many blessings and we remember that no matter our circumstances, God has provided the ultimate blessing in Jesus of Nazareth. For that gift and for that Savior, no amount of thanks is sufficient.

I hope you have the best Thanksgiving ever with family and friends. I am thankful you enjoy these commentaries and grateful to those of you who support them with your prayers and donations.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
