Read the Pig Book

March 27, 2006

If you have never read what is called “The Pig Book,” I hope you’ll do so. They next one will be published April 5th by Citizens Against Government Waste. You can find it at gagw.org

The pig book compiles some of the more outrageous congressional spending. Here are just a few of many samples: $1 million of your money for the Waterfree Urinal Conservation Initiative, courtesy of Rep. Vernon Ehlers, Michigan Republican; $100,000 for the Steele Boxing Club in Henderson, Nevada, thanks to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid; $2.1 million for Mountain Made Foundation a nonprofit group that Rep. Alan Mollohan of West Virginia helped set up and helped fund; $13.5 million for the International Fund for Ireland, which includes money for the World Toilet Summit; and then there are individual senators like Republican Ted Stevens of Alaska, who brought $320 million in pork to his state and Daniel Inouye of Hawaii who raked in $482 million in pork for his state.

There’s much more. You should read about it at Citizens Against Government Waste’s website. And get the pig book. It’s your money.
