Predicting the State of the Union Address Topics

President Obama last night delivered his sixth State of the Union address. This is being written before the speech, but without the gift of prophecy he will certainly say the following:

  • He wants a $10 an hour minimum wage and is using an executive order to make it happen. He hopes to pressure Congress to raise it as well.
  • There will be another appeal for comprehensive immigration reform. Democrats want the issue, not the solution.
  • There will be something about women, climate change and a lot about so-called "income inequality."

He isn’t going to get any of it because he is behaving as if last year’s election of republicans to control the House doesn't matter. Only he matters and Senate democrats. And so this is nothing more than a scenario leading up to the Fall elections. If the republicans don't blow it – as they have in the past – they will take back the senate and be able to stop much of the Obama train, which is wrecking the country. See if I'm right about the State of the Union speech. I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
