One Shot in the Battle for Obamacare

December 15, 2010

It's only one shot in a major battle, but the decision by US District Judge Henry Hudson of Virginia to strike down Obamacare as unconstitutional is significant. The case will find its way to the Supreme Court and could go 5-4 either way, depending on what side of the bed the unpredictable Justice Anthony Kennedy gets up on.

The issue is whether the federal government can order everyone to buy into a government health insurance pool if they decline to purchase private insurance. If you're a socialist, like this administration, you want to kill the private sector and have everyone in the government pool. From there you can decide who gets treatment and who doesn't, and who lives and who dies based on a formula that has nothing to do with the intrinsic value of a person's life, but whether you are cost-effective and contributing more to the pool than you take from it.

How this case is ultimately decided will determine whether we are able to stop the march towards a socialist state, or not. I'd say that's worth our time and attention.
