Obama to Cut Spending?

April 12, 2011

The writer Mary McCarthy famously said about the writer Lillian Hellman: “Every word she writes is a lie; including ‘and’ and ‘the’.”

That could also apply to President Obama. After expanding the national debt to record levels, the president says he will announce tomorrow a broad plan to reduce debt, even touching Medicare and Medicaid. He will also propose ending the Bush tax cuts.

More money for government has never been the problem. Less spending is the problem. Ronald Reagan used to say, “The only proof of eternal life in Washington is a government program.”

The president will supposedly cut more spending because he sees the handwriting on the wall. The public is disgusted with the debt. But frankly, I don’t trust him. He’s a hard core liberal, embracing socialist policies. He’s not about to become a fiscal conservative.
