Obama: The Real American Idol

Scotty McCreery won the American Idol season 10 contest, but here in Europe, President Obama is the real American Idol.

The British press is gaga over the president. None is more in the tank than the normally reserved 90-plus year-old columnist for the London Times, William Rees-Mogg.

Rees-Mogg can usually be counted on for a sober and analytical view of almost any person or subject, but with Obama he has gone overboard. Rees-Mogg compares our president to Winston Churchill. I guess after you’ve been compared to the messiah, Churchill is a close second.

Rees-Mogg says Churchill’s rhetoric united Britain against Nazi Germany. True. And Obama? While Churchill had substance behind his rhetoric, Rees-Mogg speaks only of Obama’s rhetorical skills. That is key. Obama is like Churchill as Lady Gaga is like Frank Sinatra, or if you prefer, Scotty McCreery.

Look for the American media to pick up on this, as if they needed more encouragement.
