Not Your Congress's Health Care

November 4, 2009

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to force a vote on the 2,000-plus page health insurance reform bill by Friday. An attachment to that bill will be introduced by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer that would basically allow the bill to be interpreted any way the liberal leadership wants. That should frighten us, given the worldview of this bunch.

Meanwhile, a group of conservative congressmen are promising an amendment to the bill that would force every member of Congress to enroll in the public option. Now you know the majority is not going to vote for that. They pass bills affecting you, not themselves. They have the best health care in the world. Doctors come to them and they get the best specialists available.

And the leadership is negotiating with pro-life Democrats over the abortion funding provision. They have claimed it isn't in the bill. If that were true, what is there to negotiate. It is true. They are trying to force us to pay for abortions. I wrote a column yesterday about how the tenth amendment may be our only hope. See it at calthomas.com if it was not in your newspaper.
