Here are some interesting figures. The White House Commission on Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Policy has discovered that 40 percent of Americans believe in haunted houses, ghosts and astrology. This was reported as a serious statistic.

Who is behind this commission, which is wasting our money? It was the brainchild of Iowa Democratic Senator Tom Harkin, who pushed for it as part of the National Institutes of Health. The funding has now reached over $100 million. This outfit is studying prayer and its connection to healing. One study deals with "distant healing" where people are "praying" to whomever.

Isn't it nice to know so much of our money is being wasted? Remember this and the other examples of waste, fraud and abuse I have been telling you about when the Congressional leadership claims they can't afford to cut spending and you don't deserve a tax cut. I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
