TV preacher Joel Osteen is coming to Washington tomorrow night. He's expected to pack the stadium where the Washington Nationals play baseball with more than 41,000 of his fans.
Osteen preaches the prosperity and feel-good gospel; nothing about sin or hell for those who are not saved. Jesus is a friend who wants you healthy and wealthy.
The masses will always turn out for a message like that. They did in biblical times when false prophets arose to deceive them. Osteen preaches another gospel. The real gospel wasn't meant to be popular because it reveals our sin and the price Jesus paid to redeem us from it.
Osteen doesn't preach repentance either. People can keep on living the way they are living and feel good about it. This is why no pastor or church is involved in Osteen's appearance.
I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
