Jason Collins, Homosexuality and the Media

I had never heard of Jason Collins until he announced he is homosexual, or gay, as they say. He's a journeyman ballplayer now with the Washington Wizards. He doesn't play much but since his announcement the sports and mainstream media have gone crazy hailing Collins as some superhero.

As Peter Roff of U.S. News wrote, there is a big difference between how Collins is being praised and encouraged, even with a phone call from President Obama, and the way Tim Tebow has been treated. Tebow, of course, is openly Christian.

Collins says he's a follower of Jesus. He says he believes in what he claims Jesus said about tolerance and inclusion. I must have missed those verses and Collins didn't cite any. He must have skipped the part about Jesus coming to save sinners, separating sheep from goats, and the rest of Scripture which was also authored by Jesus. But one doesn't expect good theology from a basketball player.

Such is the nature of our fallen world. It will get worse.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
