Islam All the Way to Timbuktu

Most people have heard of Timbuktu, but probably don't know where it is. It is in Africa.

And the reason I am mentioning it is that Islamists are taking over the country. According to a New York Times story, women are being forced to wear full, face-covering veils in Timbuktu. Music is banned from the radio. Cigarettes are snatched from the mouths of pedestrians. One man, a tailor, is quoted as saying, "There is no liberty."

Of course there is no liberty. In what Muslim country -- radical or so-called "moderate" -- is there complete liberty for anyone who doesn't toe the Islamic and sharia line? If you find some, they probably will be radicalized soon enough. So much for the "Arab Spring." So much for denials from our State Department. So much for the fiction that Islam is a "peaceful religion."

How many more countries will have to fall to Islamism before the rest of what remains of the free world wakes up?

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
