Egypt Election Proof of Islamism Sweeping the Middle East

All you need to know about the election results in Egypt is what a cleric said in introducing that country's new president, appropriately named Mohammed Mohammed Morsi. I guess one Mohammed wasn't enough for his parents.

Here's what the cleric said: "Our capital shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing." He also spoke of the Islamic dream of a worldwide caliphate.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a radical organization that wants to bring governments more in line with sharia law. At first they denied wanting to have a part in the Egyptian election, but perhaps only our State Department believed that. They lied, which is nothing new for them.

The Egyptian election is proof that the reach-out-and-touch campaign of this and previous administrations has failed. Islamism is sweeping the Middle East and when they have solidified their gains, they are coming after Israel. And us. They say so. We can't say we haven't been warned. But will we do anything about it? I'm betting not until it's too late.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
