Despite Opposition, School Vouchers Will Happen

Even though President Bush is winning more battles than people thought he would, he lost school vouchers last week. The education lobby struck again. Liberals, who regard "choice" as sacrosanct when it comes to abortion, are anti-choice for those fortunate enough to have been born when it comes to their education.

The poor, whom liberals are supposed to love, get the shaft again. Surveys show the poor want school choice, but the liberals want them to stay in failing schools because they fear the teachers unions. But vouchers, or something like them are coming with the force of a freight train. A TV commercial features the head of the Milwaukee public schools, who is a Democrat, and who supports vouchers. Several black groups have signed on, as have some current and former liberal black politicians. They know the importance of choice in education and the focus that needs to be on the students, not the teachers or administrators, and certainly not the unions. Even if it costs you money for now, invest in your children. Put them in schools where they will learn the right things.
