Congress Confronts Homegrown Terrorism

February 10, 2011

New York Republican Congressman Peter King has announced some of the witnesses he will call the week of March 7 to his hearing about the threat of homegrown Islamic terrorism. King is the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Most of the public witnesses will be Muslims and people of Arab descent in order to get around the inevitable claims of profiling. Private witnesses, who will testify behind closed doors, will be people who do not wish to testify in public.

Witnesses should include Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum and terrorism expert Steve Emerson. I am less concerned about offending Muslim sensibilities than i am about protecting my fellow Americans from murdering terrorists. Since the extremists have announced that infiltration of the West and our eventual domination and subjugation is their goal, we would do well to arm ourselves accordingly.

This is going to be a long war and we’d better fight it to win. The Islamists are. Congressman King is right to hold these hearings. They should be the first of many.
