Comments on the Petraeus Scandal

The scandal that has enveloped now-former CIA director David Petraeus deserves several comments.

First, none of us is immune from sin. Given the right circumstances, any of us might be vulnerable. Only the power and grace of God can protect us, but we have to want it more than sin.

Second, was Petraeus made to resign because he was about to testify this week before a House panel about what he and the administration knew of the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi? He should be called anyway. There's something fishy about this.

Third, why did Petraeus resign and Bill Clinton didn't? Bill Clinton was a serial adulterer, even engaging in that activity in the White House with Monica Lewinsky. And he was impeached by the House! I'd say that is a double standard.

Still, it's very sad for Petraeus' wife and the husband of his mistress, not to mention the children in both families.

In Miami, I'm Cal Thomas.
