Cal Thomas: Three Congressman Support Iraq

Three Democratic members of congress have been in Baghdad, shilling for Saddam Hussein. One of them, Congressman Jim McDermott, says he believes President Bush would lie to the nation in order to win support for a war against Saddam Hussein. I guess McDermott thinks Bill Clinton is still in office.

Congressman David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson of California joined McDermott. None of them said anything negative about Saddam Hussein. They also criticized efforts to toughen U.N. inspection requirements.

Communists used to call such people "useful idiots." Oklahoma Republican Senator Don Nickels said the three Democrats were "speaking Saddam’s message."

CBS’ "60 minutes" revealed Sunday night the contents of documents captured by Israelis during their raids on Yassir Arafat’s headquarters. Israeli intelligence says it can now prove that Iraq and Iran are secretly financing and directing acts of terrorism against Israel. It’s disgusting that American congressmen would lend support to terrorists like Saddam Hussein.

I’m Cal Thomas in Washington.
