Bypassing the Old Guard

Bypassing the Old Guard

Another survey proves what everyone but those in denial know about the profession known as journalism. Increasing numbers of the public don't trust us, at least the big broadcast networks and major newspapers. A new Gallup poll finds 55 percent of Americans have little or no trust in journalists who report the news and 60 percent see a noticeable bias in their news coverage.

The Gallup poll echoes many other surveys and polls over the years but the big media never change. If anything, they've gotten worse. It's why Fox News over the last 15 years has become so successful as a counterweight to the left-wing bias of the big networks and newspapers.

Fortunately for the public, but unfortunately for the old line gatekeepers, there are many ways to get information now, and more people are seeking to bypass the old guard, which will never change.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
