Boston Marathon Bombing: The Why Question

Now comes the why question. Why did two young men brought up in the United States indiscriminately kill and maim people at the Boston Marathon?

President Obama asked the question in a statement from the White House: "Why did young men who grew up and studied here as part of our communities and our country resort to such violence?"

The answer is Islam and its higher authority. The notion that by simply being in America makes -- or should make -- everyone in love with America and its values is false. Islamists see America as morally weak. They deplore abortion, cohabiting, pornography, scantily-clad women and the parading of homosexuality and same-sex marriage as normal. They are right in their diagnosis, but wrong in their response. They are neither God, not His appointed judges.

The two men in the Boston bombing apparently were radicalized online. How do you stop that? One thing would help, and that's to block young people from countries with a strong Islamic presence from coming here, but I doubt that will happen. And so we will wait for the next terrorist act and hope it won't be nuclear.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
