Audacious Theater

April 14, 2008

The title of Barack Obama’s best selling book is “The Audacity of Hope.” He got the audacity part right.

Obama is going after the catholic and evangelical vote.  The Obama campaign has announced formation of a “national catholic advisory council” to be headed by Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and former congressman Tim Toemer. Both claim to be pro-life and Casey’s father was barred from speaking at a Democratic National Convention because of his pro-life position.

Obama has said regardless of his own views, he intends to listen to all points of view. That’s fine, but listening and doing are two different things. Obama would not vote in the senate to stop partial birth abortion when many of his democratic colleagues did. He is a radical pro-choicer, who also favors the equivalent of same-sex marriage and wants to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” in the military, allowing gays to serve openly.

What I don’t get is why two strong pro-life democrats could be a part of this deception. It calls into question their sincerity, or it reveals their hypocrisy. Casey’s father must be turning over in his grave.
