It was announced on Wednesday that President Donald Trump will soon sign an executive order, banning refugees from various Middle Eastern countries for at least 120 days. The President of Christian aid organization World Relief has responded to this forthcoming policy.
According to Relevant Magazine, World Relief President Scott Arbeiter condemned the ban, stating, “We disagree [with] the notion that security and compassion are mutually exclusive and that the only way to address security is to completely close down the program for four months.”
World Relief is one of several government-approved organizations that are working to resettle refugees in the U.S.
Arbeiter also said that he believes the current vetting process is sufficient: “I do think that they will be pleasantly surprised by the rigors of the process that are there.”
Although a number of Christian leaders have condemned the refugee ban, Franklin Graham said yesterday that he supports it.
“It’s not a biblical command for the country to let everyone in who wants to come, that's not a Bible issue,” said the famous evangelist and President of humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse.
The ban would include refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, although it would reportedly exclude Christians and other religious minorities.
