Vatican to Install Showers for Homeless in St. Peter's Square

The Vatican will soon install showers in St. Peter’s Square to be used by the homeless community in the area. Volunteers staff the facility and provide clean towels and underwear.

The outreach project was inspired by a homeless man known only as Franco who said, “Here, no one starves to death, you can find a sandwich every day. But there is no place to use the toilet and wash.”

Archbishop Konrad Krajewski is heading the project.

He said, "The Holy Father told me at the beginning: 'You can sell your desk. You don't need it. You need to get out of the Vatican. Don't wait for people to come ringing. You need to go out and look for the poor.”

Construction for the shower facility will begin Nov. 17.
