USA Today: 20-Week Ban Too Soon for Down Syndrome Abortions

Texas' new anti-abortion law isn't sitting well with one of America's most popular newspapers, CBN News reports. USA Today's editorial board voiced their objection to the new law earlier this month, arguing that it makes it difficult for people to abort babies with Down syndrome. That's because the law bans abortions after 20 weeks, and pregnant women often don't find out until after 20 weeks that their baby has Down syndrome. "While some genetic conditions, such as Down syndrome, can be detected with amniocentesis at 16 to 22 weeks, even then it can take two weeks to get results," USA Today writes. "Add specialists, research and time to reflect, and a 20-week ban forces women and couples to make heart-rending decisions against a ticking clock."
