U.S. Welcoming Many More Muslim Than Christian Refugees

The United States is only allowing a small number of Christian refugees into the country and processing thousands of Muslims from Iraq, according to reports.

The American Center for Law and Justice claims that the U.S. government’s Refugee Processing Center has only processed 433 Christians since the beginning of 2015, while 11,086 Muslims have been processed.

"In an attempt to justify this astounding discrepancy, the Obama administration and congressional Democratic leadership continue to maintain that the U.S. should not consider a refugee's religion in deciding whether to grant refugee status," the ACLJ said on Tuesday.

According to The Christian Post, however, the ACLJ says that religion should be considered when granting refugee status especially in light of the violence in other parts of the world.

"So, we know that ISIS targets Christians in Iraq and Syria because they are Christians. Christians are being slaughtered, tortured, raped and displaced because they are Christian. We also know that under U.S. and international refugee law, religion is a criterion for granting refugee status," the ACLJ said in a statement.

A November 2015 report from the Worldwide Refugee Admissions Processing Systems said that Christian refugees in the U.S. only account for 1.6 percent of arrivals in 2015. Muslims accounted for 97.8 percent of the total.
