The Left is Mad at a NYC Councilman Who Gave Funds to a Crisis Pregnancy Center

A New York City councilman is under fire from some on the left for allocating funds to a crisis pregnancy center which does not promote abortion.

According to the New York Post, City Councilman Peter Koo (D-Queens) allocated $24,000 in city funds to go to The Bridge to Life, a crisis pregnancy center which does not support abortion, but seeks to help poor pregnant women by providing cribs, diapers, and other necessities.

Koo has been accused of being “anti-choice” and “anti-woman” by Alison Tan, who is in the running for Koo’s council seat.

The National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund’s Andrea Miller added that public funding shouldn’t go to organizations “that lie and manipulate” pregnant women.

It’s interesting, however, that Koo actually describes himself as pro-choice. He simply believes that The Bridge to Life is doing good work in the community for women who need help.

“If I thought there was anything disingenuous or deceptive or misleading that they were doing, I wouldn’t be giving them funding,” agreed Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Queens), who says he also is pro-choice.

The Bridge to Life’s Virginia Galleo said that supporting their organization doesn’t need to be a political statement:

“All I tell [women in need] is you have choices,” said Galleo. “I can help you with adoption . . . get you free medical care. It’s not all political.”
