Following their live action remakes of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is working on a remake of another 90’s classic: Aladdin.

Recently, Disney announced who the lead actors in the new film will be and it turns out the woman who will play Princess Jasmine is a woman of faith who has been a worship leader.

Relevant reports that Naomi Scott is known for playing the Pink Power Ranger in the recent Power Rangers film, but she is also a recording artist and has been a worship leader. She is half Indian and half British. Her parents are also pastors of Bridge Church in the UK.

In an interview back in April with HypeBae, Scott explained how important faith and church have been in her life:

“God is the ultimate creative force. Growing up in the Church fostered an inner spirituality that also introduced me to the concept of music having a deeper meaning. There has always been a connection between my faith, and realizing that music can have a soul and purpose, which has ultimately affected the way I approach the art. Listening to soulful vocalists like Mary Mary and Kim Burrell; playing the piano, and leading worship has directly shaping my artistry.”

She has also spoken out about Christian persecution, tweeting, “So many christians being targeted in Egypt and other areas. Praying for all my brothers and sisters around the world who face persecution.”

Disney has also announced that Will Smith will play the Genie in Aladdin and Mena Massoud will play Aladdin.
