A Tennessee teen who prayed to God after being trapped under a 5,000 pound truck says it was God’s intervention that saved him.
Sam Ray, 18, had called his father for advice on fixing his truck and was about to take a break from working on it when a car jack gave way and the truck came down on him, pinning him to the ground, according to The Blaze.
Ray said he kept praying to God to save him and repeatedly recited Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”).
Ray said he yelled for help but no one heard him.
It was then that Ray heard a noise coming from his back pocket. It was Siri, the built-in, voice-activated feature of the iPhone.
Ray says he was able to use his hip to activate Siri and dial 911, despite being pinned underneath the 5,000 pound vehicle.
His efforts worked and he heard the voice of a 911 dispatcher on the line.
Ray says he shouted to the dispatcher, hoping she would be able to hear him.
“I didn’t know if she could hear me or not, but I heard her say that help was just around the corner,” Ray reported.
Rescuers from the Rutherford County medical, Sherriffs, and fire departments were soon on the scene. They lifted the heavy truck off of Ray and took him to the hospital.
In all, Ray spent about 40 minutes pinned underneath the truck and suffered three broken ribs, some burns, a bruised kidney, and other minor scrapes and bruises.
Ray and his parents believe that it was God who preserved his life and allowed him to contact emergency help.
Ray plans to attend Tri-State Baptist College in the fall in Walls, Mississippi.
“I don’t know what the future holds, but I would love to help people the way I was helped,” Ray stated. “It’s reassuring to know I’m here for a purpose. I could have died underneath that truck. This has reminded me how fragile life is and how little time we have to make a difference.”
