Tebow's 316 Yards Leads to Internet Salvations

January 16, 2012

When Christian quarterback Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards Jan. 8 in the Denver Broncos' upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL playoffs, John 3:16 was the No. 1 searched item on Google by the next morning -- and as it turns out, some of those searches led to decisions of eternal significance, Baptist Press reports. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) reported that more than 150 people accepted Jesus as their Savior as a result of searching for John 3:16 on Google and then clicking on an ad for the BGEA's website PeacewithGod.net. The ad was set to appear when people searched for John 3:16, and data showed that in total, 8,000 people searching for the verse clicked on PeacewithGod.net. The ad also shows up in Google searches such as "What happens when I die?" and "Does God exist?" and the website has tallied more than 1 million visitors since its launch in May 2011.
