A Christian chocolate company in the UK is asking shoppers to complain to supermarkets who refused to stock their Easter eggs this year.
Christian Today reports The Real Easter Egg company explains Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection with the packaging around the fairtrade chocolate egg. But several supermarkets have refused to stock the product this year, citing poor sales in previous years.
The Real Easter Egg founder David Marshall said Christians who want their grocery stores to carry the chocolate eggs can influence them.
"Supermarkets will only ever have 12 eggs on display at a time so if you want lots, try a local shop or one of the online retailers. We do our best every year to argue that they should stock more, as people are looking for them, but when their buyer changes we have to start the process again. So go and hunt them out and clear the shelves and they will order next year,” he said.
UK grocery store chains, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrison’s did fill orders for the Easter eggs, a decision that was praised by the Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu.
He said,"With a million Real Easter Eggs sold I am delighted that Morrisons, Tesco and Waitrose have met the challenge. I call on Sainsbury's, Asda, and the Co-operative to give their customers the same choice."
