Students Take Defiant Action after Atheists Demand School Take Down Christian Flag

Several students at LaPoyner High School defied atheist organization the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) after the organization demanded that the school take down the Christian flag on display.

Someone associated with the school posted on Facebook: “Sooooo you didn’t like the one flag we had flying, how about three more … We have a great group of kids I tell you what …”. The photo showed three Christian flags being displayed from the beds of three students’ pickup trucks on school property.

According to TheBlaze.com, the FFRF found out about the flag on display at LaPoyner High School in Larue, Texas after a former student allegedly contacted the organization and notified them that the flag was seen displayed while students at the school took part in the See You at the Pole event last month.

The FFRF demanded that the school take the flag down and refrain from promoting religion in any way.

General sentiment seems to be against the FFRF, however, as evidenced by the students’ act of defiance, as well as comments made by local community members.

“The Freedom From Religion organization really has a distorted and inaccurate view of the separation of church and state in the First Amendment,” said one man at last week’s school board meeting. “Matter of fact I’d like to say that their viewpoint is probably void and alien to that of our Founding Fathers.”

LaPoyner’s superintendent James Young said that, at least for now, the flag will remain displayed on school grounds while the FFRF’s concerns are reviewed.
