Southern Baptist Church, Mayor Vow to Rebuild $16 Million Senior Center Destroyed in Baltimore Riots

A Southern Baptist Church pastor and the mayor of Baltimore have vowed to rebuild a $16 million senior center that was burned last week in the riots that followed the death of Freddie Gray.

The building was intended to house low-income senior citizens in apartments and included a community center.

The Christian Post reports that Pastor Donte Hickman Sr. had planned for the building to be constructed for five years before convincing developers and bureaucrats to support his plan.

Hickman has now met with a developer, The Woda Group, to reconstruct the facility.

The pastor told The Baltimore Sun, "This is not a setback, but a setup to restart this project. The Broadway East community will come back better and stronger than before."
